Slice 200 grams (7 oz) of stale bread into 1cm (0.5 inch) thick slices.
Mix 5 eggs, a flat teaspoon of salt and 250 ml of milk (1 cup, 8.5 fl oz).
Heat 25 grams (1 oz) of butter (or oil, or clarified butter) in a heavy bottomed pan. Dip the dried bread into the milk-egg mixture for 10 seconds on each side.
Place the bread slice onto the hot pan. Fry the French Toast until golden brown on one side, then flip to brown the other side.
