Make homemade apple jam from scratch! Try this easy recipe and enjoy apples at their best- year round.
Peel and core 2 kg (4.5 pounds) of granny smith (or other acidic) apples.
Transfer the apples to a baking pan, and bake at 170°C (340°F) for about 20 minutes, until tender, or place in a bowl set over simmering water and cook until tender.
Blend in batches until smooth, and pass through a sieve.
Place in a large saucepan, add 1.5 kg (3.5 pounds) of sugar, and cook over high heat, stirring very frequently.
Test the jam for doneness- place a dollop on a plate. If it is thick and not runny, it is ready.
Cool and store in jars, in a dry dark place. Enjoy this delicious apple jam with pancakes, make fried apple pies or enjoy a spoonful of jam with tea.
